Google has officially released their popular photo management application Picasa for Macs, after years of offering Picasa as a free Windows download. It's an exciting announcement for anyone who's looking for a good photo management app on OS X that isn't iPhoto or for anyone who's used and fallen in love with Picasa on Windows or Linux. This release still sports the beta tag, so you can expect a bug here or there, but overall it appears to boast most of the same features as its counterparts. That includes:

Windows only: Free application Capture.NET calls itself "the Swiss Army knife of PC tools," and while it does offer a wide array of functionality, calling it a kitchen-sink style tool may be more accurate.

iPhone or iPod touch only: When you can't wrest the TV remote from your father-in-law to watch the news this week, fire up the all-new ABC News iPhone app. The latest entry into news-based iPhone apps, ABC News offers top stories, location-specific news alerts, and videos from shows like Good Morning America and 20/20. iPhone/iPod touch only: One of the great strengths of Songbird, a jukebox app intended to serve as a more open-ended iTunes killer, is its Firefox-like extensibility.

Windows/Mac/Linux: Opera released an alpha version of Opera 10 today, a first step toward the next major release of the popular cross-platform web browser. First and foremost, Opera 10 is looking to offer stiff competition with the blazing rendering engines in the upcoming Firefox release (Tracemonkey) and Google Chrome (V8) with an update to its rendering engine, Presto—which Opera claims offers a 30% speed boost over the previous version of the engine.
