Imagine typing the same few keystrokes from any browser to email or clip a page, or start any kind of search. Quix is a universal browser commander, on your desktop or mobile, and it's my favorite new timesaver. Here's how it works.

Android: There's no built-in means of syncing bookmarks to your Android phone, unless you open and enter each one. Interactive bookmarklets, too, are generally a no-go. With the MyBookmarks app installed, you can sync bookmarks and install (most) bookmarklets in Android's browser.

Google's Toolbar does a few nifty things, but it is, well, a browser toolbar. And it might track your browsing without permission. Here's how to get most of its features without having to install it, or nearly any extra software.

Firefox: Mozilla's out with the 1.0 of its Weave project, and it delivers on what it first promised—quiet, complete syncing of bookmarks, passwords, preferences, history, and even open tabs. It also heralds the coming of a really cool mobile experience.

Chrome: FreshStart is an easy to use session manager for Google Chrome that allows you to save and organize your tabs between sessions.Once you've installed FreshStart the small green and blue icon you see in the screenshot above appears in your menu bar. At any time you can click on the icon to save the current set of tabs—with the option to exclude tabs by unchecking them—or restoring a previous session.

iPhones and iPod touch models can't sync with Firefox bookmarks, but you can regularly push your bookmarks to them on a Windows system. The trick involves the Xmarks sync service, Internet Explorer, and a tiny system tray utility.

Firefox: If you're all about keeping a tidy bookmarks file, Incredible Bookmarks is a Firefox extension packed with features to help you sort, organize, check, and color code your bookmarks.

Firefox only (Win/Mac/Linux): Firefox extension Unsorted Bookmarks Folder Menu adds a new folder to your bookmarks menu so you can get access to starred bookmarks without having to open the organize bookmarks dialog.

Firefox only: If your bookmarks bar has gotten out of control with dead links, duplicates, and empty folders, Firefox extension CheckPlaces will check all your bookmarks and even clean them up for you, automatically deleting anything unnecessary.
