Windows: If you like your software open-source you'll definitely want to check out UltraDefrag a snappy open-source Windows disk defragmenter.UltraDefrag is available as a portable application and in a GUI and ultra lightweight command-line only version—the lightweight version is designated as "micro" in the download list and is at the top of the screen, make sure to scroll down for the GUI version if you want to interact with the program like in the screenshot above.

We recently highlighted personal development blogger Dragos Roua's suggestion to treat yourself as a computer to become the best version of yourself. One of his suggestions: Defrag your mind. Here's a closer look at what he meant.

Your computer works hard to do the tasks you ask of it, shuttling data to and fro. Sometimes it isn't the best housekeeper, however, and files aren't always filed away as neatly as they should be. This week we want to hear which tool you use to defragment your hard disks and put all those little pieces back together where they belong. Why is the tool your favorite? What additional features make it stand out?

Windows only: Freeware defrag utility MyDefrag not only handles the basic drive defragmentation tasks, it also includes a powerful scripting engine, a screensaver, and a command-line version.

Windows only: Free application FragExt adds an entry to your right-click context menu so you can defragment individual files on demand. To use it, just right-click the file you want to defrag, then select FragExt -> Defragment. You can also run reports on the fragmentation of individual files and copy it to your clipboard, a file, or just view it in a newly minted tab in the file properties.

Windows only: Put your high-priority programs and files in the most easily-accessed parts of your hard drive with UltimateDefrag, a free Windows utility. The program does all the normal data-ordering of a standard defragmenting app (and probably runs at roughly the same speeds), but lets you choose which data to place on the outer, or faster, portions of your disk.
